The Big ONE – A Surf-Themed Cake Smash!

This little guy may have been all business, but his surf-themed cake smash was nothing short of a splash! To celebrate turning ONE, his parents chose a “The Big ONE” theme, complete with surfboards, beachy decor, and an ocean-inspired balloon arch. Even though he was a serious little fella, he still had plenty of fun—especially when it came time to dig into his cake!

A Beachy Setup for The BIG ONE!

For this session, I created a bright and playful beach scene, featuring mini surfboards, tropical accents, and the perfect mix of blues and sandy neutrals. The setup brought all the summer vibes, making it feel like a day at the beach.

At first, he wasn’t too sure about all the excitement. He gave me some of the best serious expressions, which only made his little personality shine even more! But once we brought out the cake, everything changed. He loved playing in the frosting, squishing it between his fingers, and making a mess in the best way. He might not have smiled much, but he had the best time smashing and exploring his cake!

A Fun and Messy Celebration

Even though he was more focused than giggly, his cake smash was a huge success! Watching him carefully inspect the decorations, curiously poke at the cool frosting, and finally dive into the cake was so fun to capture. Every baby brings their own amazing personality to a cake smash, and that’s what makes these sessions so special.
